Yesterday at the Maxxi Museum the Sindicato Nazionale Giornalisti Cinematografici Italiani (SNGCI) announced the nominations for what is considered as the Italian Golden Globes but here the awards are given by the Italian press and not the foreign press in Italy.

Leading the pack are films by Munzi and Sorrentino with seven (7) nominations each followed closely by films by Costanzo, Garrone, Moretti and Francesca Archibugi's Il nome del figlio with 6 each. Worth mentioning is that Youth did not qualify for the acting categories as most, if not all, were not Italians.

There is no doubt in my mind that Italian press is hurting because Cannes awards snub to the infamous trio (Sorrentino, Garrone and Moretti) as most articles tend to start with news that they didn't win a thing.  When reading some of the news got the spontaneous impression that "something" is happening to Italian cinema when most acclaimed directors go to work in the English-language and perhaps a new generation will come to claim back the prestige of great Italian cinema.

Here are the nominees in some of the categories.

To read nominees in all categories go here, available only in Italian.  In case you are still in shock for what happened in Cannes and forgot what happened in Venice fest last year, let me remind you that Alba Rohrwacher won the Copa Volpi for Best Actress for her performance in Hungry Hearts, so I hope the film journalists recall her great achievement and give her the Silver Ribbon this year again -she won it in 2010 for her performance in La solitudine dei numeri primi.

Award ceremony will be on Saturday, June 27 at Teatro Antico di Taormina. A few days ago was announced that the Nastro dell'anno 2015 was given to Il giovane favoloso by Mario Martone. Last Friday was also announced that the Nastri Europei this year will go to Laura Morante and Lambert Wilson. On Thursday the SNGI announced that the Nastro alla Carriera this year goes to Ninetto Davoli.
